I'm going to duplicate this post, putting it both in the FlamingoHD forum and the VoltaicHD forum since it overlaps and applies to both...

I'm a proud new owner of the VoltaicHD and FlamingoHD set... I like the product a lot, but I've hit a snag. I have 2 cameras, one a Canon HF S10 AVCHD cam, and the other a Canon HV20 HDV camera... Now, the ShedWorx software offers great workflows for AVCHD, but my workflow for HDV may be a little different than most people. While most Mac people probably capture straight to HDV codec in a mov wrapper (using FCP or iMovie, etc.), I personally store my footage similarly to AVCHD... that is, in Mpeg transport streams, by using the DVHSCap tool on the Mac. It's great... The idea is similar to the ShedWorx philosophy of keeping original AVCHD files (MTS or M2TS, depending on the camera maker). But when I capture using DVHSCap, the stream is captured to an M2T file, an extension which is meant for HDV held in transport streams. Now, 2 problems...

FlamingoHD: When I try to import M2T file it just doesn't work. FHD seems to be incapable of indexing files with the M2T index. Now, I can change the extensions to M2TS, which makes it possible for FHD to index them, but then they are indexed as type AVCHD, and poster/thumbnail previews are not possible. It's just a giant white icon.

VoltaicHD: As for VHD, if I try to convert one of my M2T files, like FHD, it won't even deal with the file... And also, if I change the extension to M2TS so it at least looks at the file, it thinks it's AVCHD because of the extension, and after a minute or so of attempted processing comes up with the error: "Unsupported Video File Unable to parse the input file".

I know HDV isn't high on your guys priority list, but even if it's hard to include the conversion into VoltaicHD, I hope at least you guys can write it in so it'll accept the HDV file type with that extension so I can use FlamingoHD to index them all together. Otherwise I'd have to keep a whole different organization system just for my HDV files.

Thanks

HDV support

Hi there,

I hope you don't mind but I've deleted the duplicate post so that we don't end up with comments on each post. We keep our format questions against VoltaicHD, but our software all uses a common library for video management so once a format is supported in VoltaicHD it will be supported on the other products.

I think that the M2T transport stream is slightly different to the M2TS transport stream, which is why FlamingoHD won't accept it.

Please upload a sample for us and we'll have a look.

HDV support

Hi there -- I'm sending over the sample file now. Sorry for the delay. Hope to see m2t support soon :-) I just realized that I meant for this to go in the FHD forums first, since at least indexing the m2t is more important to me than conversion capability since I have a few other options for that. However, VHD support would also be great.

Thanks,
Justin
