Hi, I need some major help! I'm trying to use Voltaic to convert some mpg files that were shot on a Canon Vixia HF20. I need mov files to edit in FCE. The message I get is "The video file has a non standard resolution. Please use advanced export settings in Preferences to select an appropriate Quicktime format." I can play the videos using VLC so I know that they are ok.
I just got the program a few weeks ago so I have the most up to date version.
Here's the video info:
Dimensions: 720x480
Codecs, AC3, MPEG-2 Video
Audio channels: 2
Total bit rate: 9,256
Can anyone please shed some light on this?? Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Thanks for all of your help, it finally works : )
Custom conversion
The video size you have is standard definition, so won't convert to Apple Intermediate Codec, since AIC is a HD-only codec.
For editing in FCE, I suggest a conversion using Custom settings into MPEG4, H.264 at the same resolution as the source.
If this doesn't work, please send us a sample and we will try a few options.
It's still not working, how
It's still not working, how do I send you a sample?
Video upload
you can either upload to our FTP server, or you could use YouSendIt (or any file transfer service), then let us know via our support line (support@shedworx.com).
Our FTP upload server is:
server name: download.shedworx.com
username: shedworx

Thank you, I am uploading it right now. I made a new folder called Maggie Klein and put it in there. I really hope you can figure it out!
Conversion
Hi Maggie,
thanks for the sample. We've converted it OK to AIC, 720x480 and it edits fine in Final Cut Express.
Here are the settings to use:
- Select Custom conversion in the main Voltaic action selector
- go to Preferences then Custom and select Quicktime movie
- click on the Options button
- the Movie Settings window will come up. Click on Settings
- in the next window that pops up, choose Apple Intermediate Codec from the drop
down, then close that window
- back on Movie Settings, click Size
- Set Dimensions to NTSC 720x480 16:9 and OK
Good luck!
