Like it says in the subject, I have a short scene that spans two MTS files. I would like to convert this particular scene into a single AIC MOV for editing, but can't find a way to do it. If I convert the two MTSs in their entirety, they are extremely unwieldy - over 4Gb in MTS format alone - imagine that once converted to AIC!
Any help much appreciated. ; )
Trimming
Hi Mark,
this is exactly what we built the trim function for. In this case, use the trimmer in the previewer to select the last bit of the first MTS file and the first bit of the second MTS file.
You can then select Join to create a single output file.
Use the standard convert option to convert to AIC and you will have a single, small AIC movie ready for editing!
Let us know how you get on

Trimming - Spanning MTS Files
Hi Justin,
Thanks for that, but that's exactly what I was doing. The problem is that when the first segment (on MTS #1) completes, although the sound from the second segment (on MTS #2) continues correctly, the video reverts to the start of the selected segment back on MTS #1. I thought I was doing something incorrectly, but I've just repeated this several times with the same result.
This is the kit I'm using:
VoltaicHD for Mac 2.0.2(build 814)
Sony HDR-SR12E - AVCHD (MTS) files shot at 1920x1080i
MacBook Pro 5.1 - 2.53GHz, 4Gb RAM, Intel Core Duo, OS X (Snow Leopard 10.6.3)
Again, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark
Trimming problem
Hi Mark,
please try the latest Beta build. We have fixed a bug related to trimming and joining in the latest Beta.
FYI, the Beta has tested out 100% ok on Intel Macs. We're dealing with a minor PowerPC issue before we release it.

Trimming - Spanning MTS Files
Hi Justin,
Right - I tried this as a solution (I'm anxious about the time I have left on this project):
I downloaded the 2.5 beta and used the native AVCHD setting to join and trim the two segments. This worked fine - all of the material is there, or it appears to be when I scrub through on the preview pane. However, when I convert the resulting MTS, only the part corresponding to the first MTS segment is converted - the second segment is gone, even though it is contained in the 'joined' MTS.
Quite frustrating!

Native AVCHD trimming
Hi Mark,
please use the trimming function to produce an AIC output movie rather than creating a new MTS movie then converting that.
We have an issue with converting our own trimmed MTS movies that we're working on, but we're going to release with this as a workaround.
Thanks
Justin
Native AVCHD trimming
Hi Justin,
Yes, I've tried that. What happens now is that at the intersection of the two segments, there is a 20 frame block of silence on the audio at which point the picture from the second segment jumps in, out-of-sync. Playing this sequence on camera doesn't produce this glitch - it appears to be a VoltaicHD fault. This has caused me a great deal of aggravation, and caused me to over-run on this project. I really would recommend that Shedworx sort this out before the retail release of 2.5.0...

AVCHD trimming
Thanks Mark - we're looking at this now. It appears to only occur for large files. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi Justin, Thanks for getting
Hi Justin,
Thanks for getting 'on the case' on this. I would very much appreciate (an email?) notification when you have a solution for this problem.
Regards and thanks (again),
