wondering if this is normal... I wanted to batch import my mts streams from my HD (Mac OS 10.6.2 with 12GB Mem). The great news is that all I had to do was point to a folder and it found all the sub folders containing my MTS streams...in this case from 2008. I have a total of about 32GB of MTS files (maybe about 300 or so actual files totaling 32GB). The first step of batching took about 2 hours then the fun began.... I left it sitting overnite while it was generating the filmstrip view and it was still running about 10 hours later...turns out I ran out of disk space on my SSD.. After inspection, the FHD log file was about 25GB. I suspect thats why it was hanging and it would not normally take that log to generate a filmstrip.

So my question is this: why is the log file (located under the Library folder) almost as huge as the actual MTS folder (and the actual FlamingoHD folder with all the sub folders like temp, database, library and cache so small (60mb)?

thanks!

Log file

Hi Andy,

no this isn't normal! The log file should be deleted on restart if its size is > 500Kb. Its possible that we are logging too much stuff, especially if it hit some kind of error and went nuts.

As restart of Flamingo should fix things. Filmstrip generation will restart on startup.

If this doesn't get rid of the log file, just Quit Flamingo and delete it manually.

Good to hear that the Batch Import is working for you.

thx Justin.... So I

thx Justin.... So I rebooted/relaunched and am currently batching the same folders...but its still working after about 30min. How long should this normally take (in my case its about 35GB of MTS files)?

thx

UPDATE: Didn't work again...got huge log file. Rebooted and started over except this time, I drilled down to a single MTS folder directly which contained about 70 clips...The import into Events went great..only took 3-4 minutes...then took about 10 min to produce a filmstrip view... But here is the problem..the resulting filmstrip MTS files did not all fully render... looks like only the first 2 days rendered but the next 15-20 days or so did not...all I get for those files is a picture of a pink Flamingo with an exclamation point and a red dot in the information panel indicating I assume the view is not available. It does show the correct file size of these unavailable filmstrips, etc. All the clips look intact in Poster view but not in Filmstrip view. Any ideas whats going wrong here? thanks

LATEST UPDATE: Its ALL works! I believe I was just not waiting long enough for the database to do its magic (even though the spinning wheel was done it *really* wasn't done). Therefore, all is well.

I did learn in the process that you cannot have the same sub folder name multiple times when doing a batch import (I have 'STREAM" for every folder I've downloaded from my camera) ...Everytime I batched only the first STREAM folder was recognized. Once I renamed the remaining, they all worked.

Folder naming

Thanks Andy,

Skipping same-named folders during a batch import is something that we will fix ASAP. It will be in the next bug-fix release of FlamingoHD.

I'm glad it all worked out for you. We will be spending a lot of time on FlamingoHD in the first half of this year, so I hope you will like it.
