I have been able to import video and import into Final Cut 6.0... But the ac3 audio which should be 5.1 audio only has audio on channels 1 and 2 ... the other are blank.. Yes the camera is recording 5.1.. can play it back thru sound system sounds great. I have selected Extract 5.1 ch Audio in preferences.
Any Help Thank you
Yeah
Ok I am able to import 5.1 audio into Final Cut 6.0.... First use VoltaicHD extract the video with Extract 5.1ch Audio... Bring the ac3 audio file into Final Cuts Compressor.. In Audio folder, select Quicktime 5.1... Then Import that new quicktime audio file... Yeah 6 channels discreet audio.... Front Left Right Stereo, Center, Sub woofer, Rear Left Right Stereo
5.1 audio in VoltaicHD
VoltaicHD currently downgrades the audio to stereo on conversion. This is because most consumer AVCHD cameras only record stereo (Canon, JVC, Panasonic).
The Extract 5.1 Audio option in VoltaicHD just pulls out the AC3 audio track from the video and saves it in your output directory. Some editors can take an AC3 audio file, but Final Cut Pro cannot (not 6 channel AC3 that is).
We don't have any plans to change the current processing approach for VoltaicHD, although we will look into methods of bringing 6 channel audio into Final Cut Pro, from the AC3 AVCHD audio.
Final Cut
Final Cut 6 does import the AC3 audio file I get Stereo 1 and 2, Mono 3, Mono 4, and Stereo 5 and 6... and after I import it in it only shows on the audio waveform on tracks 1 2 the other are just flat line. Final Cut 6 has a default for the sequence for 5.1 audio and if you have fiber digital audio out (like Mine) you can connect it to a sound system. I'm gonna try at work on our Intel machines and see if it brings 5.1 audio directly in from the camera and see if that works. I will report back here.
Final Cut Pro and AC3
Thanks - we're interested in what you find.
I got the same AC3 importing behaviour on Final Cut Pro 7.
We will looking into converting AC3 into a 6 channel audio file that Final Cut Pro.

Great! Thanks for figuring
Great! Thanks for figuring that out. It worked perfectly for me too.
We'll write up a FAQ entry for this.
